Side profile of the X9 reminds me of a grasshopper or a banana. Just imagine it in yellow or green! It's what Piaggio's designer calls 'bio rich' lines. Very organic! But beneath the X9 lies a Leader, Master or Quasar engine of pure italian pedigree, the same ones found in the Vespa GTS. X9 Evolution comes in 125, 200, 250 & 500 variants.
It looks like Lai Thai Motor, Klang and Motor Sing, Pudu, have managed to get their hands on some 30 units of '03 unregistered Piaggio X9 Evolution 200 from a grey importer. These bikes have been letf sitting in storage gathering dust for the past several years.
What i felt apprehensive about purchasing one, is the fear that the moving parts might foul up from having lain idle for too long! The X9 is afterall not designed for peak operating performance at the equator (especially rubber parts wilting & hardening under our intense heat having been kept so long!)! I heard that a common problem is the LCD meter experiencing water damage caused by our heavy torrential downpours! Also the front shocks sleeves are prone to leaks because of hardening & the petrol sensor acting up as well. Tyres would definitely have to be changed as it would have hardened over time, be prepared to fork out rm 600 for a pair of Michelins Gold Standard!
But the lure of its italian pedigree and pizazz is tempting my senses crazy! Like the sweet lines of the svelte body of a sexy young siren. As they say, that u'd probably know that it's bad for u, but u want it anyway!
