Athletes and Sex at the Beijing Olympics 2008

Cheeky adverts with stick-man athletes using condoms as apparatus have become all the rage at the games!

Hey! It looks like something more than meets the eye is going on at the Olympics village. It was said that in Sydney Olympics it ran out. In Athens it doubled. So this time the organizers wise up at the Beijing Olympics by making sure that 100,000 condoms were supplied to satisfy the needs of the athletes!

Seriously folks i kid u not. Although sex is not on the list of recognized events in the Olympic games, not officially at least, but imagine this, u have a games village with 10,500 adrenaline pumped athletes who is in great physical shape, all of whom are prime physical specimens of the human species with a lot time once knocked out of the games. So what do they do? Go figure! Certainly not darts!

Assuming if all 100,000 condoms were snapped up this olympics, each athlete would get 9.5 condoms! Hmm...that's not exactly a whole lot of sex, especially not if sex is part of your recommended performance boosting regime! No, not really, although i have heard of that one before!

Athletes have been given free condoms since the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 to raise AIDS awareness. Are we encouraging our athletes to have free consensual and protected casual sex you might ask? Hey why not? Don't be such a prude!

"There are many young, strong, single people in the athletes' village and, like everywhere, some will fall in love or other things so we need to make condoms available," Ole Hansen, spokesman for UNAIDS China, told Reuters.

"A lot of these young people are not married or in relationships so we want to make sure they have the information and tools to protect themselves if they have sexual encounters."

The distribution of condoms is also seen as an anti-discrimination campaign besides raising AIDS awareness. In the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City in 2002, only 100,000 condoms were distributed out of the planned 250,000 condoms, as it was met with protests from religious groups. So for the Beijing Olympics, if all 100,000 condoms are distributed without anyone getting upset, then it would be a new moral benchmark of sorts for China! Way to go China!

It's interesting to note that during the Sydney Games in 2000, 70,000 condoms were quickly exhausted and 20,000 had to be brought in for reinforcements.

How come nobody ever told me anything about sex being in the equation of sports, national pride or medals in the Olympics? If i had known, i would want to be very near the girls gymnastics and swimming teams at the village and i would go prepared! I wonder with all these going ons, if there are many other sports related injuries reported! LOL!
